Quixotic Coffee

Final season has set in and the only reprieve Cody has is coffee. Today we escaped the confines of our house and made a mad dash to Quixotic Coffee, nestled in the Highland neighborhood.

Large floor to ceiling windows bathe overstuffed couches in sunlight. A large number and variety of tables address just about every customer. A bar lines the window for the observationist, barista bar seating attracts the coffee enthusiasts, cosy tables seat the conversationalists, and a private room provides a meeting space for groups.

Although we have been here a few times, we have not posted a review to pass on to you. This time we tried a Guatemala, via Clever Dripper, and a latte. One of the nice aspects of Quixotic is its rotation of roasters. Instead of sticking with one roaster for all of their coffee, they use Moonshine and rotate the other. It provides the consumer with exposure to a variety of roasters, which culminates in a better appreciation of quality roasting.

The Guatemala was roasted by Ceremony Roasters in Maryland. Nuts and butter filled the aroma. The cup was light and smooth. Butter and nut notes faded smoothly into a sweet finish with floral accents. Overall this was a very balanced, delicious cup.

Although I prefer my espresso:milk ratio closer to a 1:1 or 1:2, the latte was good. The traditional carmel notes associated with espresso were muted. Instead, the espresso seemed bright with a slight pretzel taste.

Quixotic is worth a visit. The space is good and the coffee better. I would recommend trying one of the featured roasters. Expand your roaster base and decide for yourself what qualities you prefer.

Enjoy.
